Terry McGeever has been a Pearl River resident for over 20 years, where she resides with her husband Kevin, a retired NYPD lieutenant, member of the NYPD Emerald Society Pipes and Drums, and member of AOH Division 3, along with their 4 children: Kevin, Kiera, Kaileen and Kian. Terry is the daughter of the late Charles and Theresa Carway. Charles was an NYPD detective and Theresa was a teacher. Charles and Theresa instilled in their 6 children the values of faith, family and character. Theresa, who Irish step-danced and played fiddle as a child, had a passion for Irish music. Terry and her 5 siblings either played fiddle, piano or harp and Terry and her 3 sisters Irish step danced. Terry’s grandparents emigrated from Mayo, Sligo and Westmeath.
Terry has 2 degrees from NYU; a BA in psychology and a BS in physical therapy (PT). She is employed full time at The ARC Rockland and per diem for Venture Together. She also was a per-diem PT for Montefiore Nyack Hospital from 2003 until 2023. Prior to having children, she was the Assistant Director of PT at New York – Presbyterian (NYP) Columbia University Irving Center and headed the PT department at the NYP Allen Hospital.
Kevin and Terry are the proud parents of twins, Kevin and Kiera, and Kaileen and Kian. Kevin, Kiera and Kaileen are registered nurses. Kevin was a bagpiper in the Rockland County AOH Pipe Band and the Manhattan College Pipe Band. Kiera and Kaileen were both harpists in the Sacred Heart University Orchestra. Kaileen also played the flute and tin whistle in the Pearl River School of Irish Music (PRSOIM). Kevin, Kiera and Kaileen were Irish step dancers with the Innishfree Irish Dancing School. Kian is a senior in Iona University and is the Pipe Sergeant in the Pipe Band. He is also on the rugby team and is an accomplished accordion player. He played Gaelic football for 13 years before entering college. Terry is the oldest of 6 children: Charles Carway, John Carway, Christine Howard, Deirdre Heffernan and Tara Hooker. Deirdre and Tara are both board members in LAOH Division 3 and Deirdre is the LAOH Div. 3 Aide to the Grand Marshal.
In 2009 Terry joined LAOH Div. 3 and immediately became involved. She co-chaired several fundraising committees, chaired the scholarship committee and is currently chair of the membership committee. She also coordinated the student Irish music entertainment at several Saint Patrick’s Day and Christmas parties at Saint Zita’s Nursing Home.
Her LAOH Divi. 3 board positions were: President 2016–2020; Vice President 2014–2016. On the county level Terry’s RCLAOH board positions are/were: President 2023–present; Secretary 2019–2023; Mistress at Arms 2017–2019. Terry was also given the honor of being the RCLAOH Aide to the Grand Marshal, 2019, and Battalion Commander, 2014.
Her involvement with AOH Div. 3 was coordinating the student Irish music entertainment at several senior citizen Saint Patrick’s Day and Thanksgiving lunches. Additionally, she has been coordinating the student Irish step dance and music performances at the AOH Div. 4 Town of Ramapo Irish Heritage Night for over 10 years and received a plaque in appreciation in 2016.
Terry has been a member of the Rockland County AOH St. Patrick’s Day parade committee since 2014 and was the judge chairperson in 2022. She was also a member of the Rockland County Feis Committee from 2018 until 2020. Two of her children, Kaileen and Kian, were students of the Pearl River School of Irish Music for several years and Terry co-chaired their annual fundraiser numerous times. She traveled to Ireland for 9 consecutive years with the PRSOIM and her children who qualified and competed in the All Ireland fleadh. Terry held a board position on the CCE Martin Mulvihill branch also.
In the Pearl River School District Terry held many PTA board positions in the 3 schools her children attended including President in the elementary and middle school. She coordinated the Saint Patrick’s Day program at the elementary school for 10 years which included bagpipes, traditional Irish music, song and dance. Terry was a CCD Instructor/ Assistant at Saint Margaret’s Parish for several years and was a Girl Scout Leader for both daughters as well.
Terry is very proud of her Irish heritage and was extremely honored to be nominated by LAOH Division 3 for the 2024 Rockland County AOH Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Hibernian of the Year.
