Narrated by Liam Neeson, the documentary feature tells the extraordinary story of how Denis Mulcahy, who served for 33 years with the NYPD and was a member of their elite Bomb Squad, founded ‘Project Children’ a program that brought children from across all communities in war torn Northern Ireland to the United States for the summer holidays giving them not only a respite from the everyday violence and strife of their homeland but a chance to meet, know and understand children from other communities, an opportunity that would be impossible back home. The program has been invaluable in breaking down centuries of distrust and led to life long friendships that would have previously been unimaginable. For his work. Denis Mulcahy was nominated twice for the Nobel Peace Prize, finishing a runner-up to Mother Theresa and Nelson Mandela.
This inspiring movie puts a fresh perspective on the conflict of Northern Ireland and the role of Irish America in helping to bring peace to that troubled land and is a must see. It was a Winner at Irish Film Institute Documentary Festival, Dublin.
