Edmond Patrick O’Dea was born in Woodside, Queens in 1961 to Edmond and Beatrice O’Dea (Harrigan). His father was a New York City Bus Driver and his mother worked as an Administrative Assistant. Edmond and his three siblings, Mary (Lynch), Martin, and Daniel were raised in Woodside, Queens. For most of their lives, their paternal grandfather lived with them in Woodside . All four O’Dea children attended St. Teresa Elementary School in Woodside. Eddie attended Immaculata High School in 1979.
Eddie met his wife of 32 years, Lorraine Myers of Brooklyn, in 1982. They married at St. Matthias Church in Ridgewood, Queens in 1986. Eddie and Lorraine settled in Kew Gardens Hills, where they welcomed their three children Ryan Patrick (1988), a New York City Police Officer, Erin Lynne (1990), an Associate at Boyle Shaughnessy Law and Brendan Thomas (1994) , a Project Portfolio Manager at JRM Construction. Eddie and Lorraine moved their young family to Pearl River in 1994, becoming active members of St. Margaret’s Parish.
Eddie was proudly sworn into the New York Police Department in February 1984. Throughout his beloved 22-year career, Eddie was assigned to and served at NSU 15 in Harlem, Manhattan’s 20 Precinct, Harlem’s 30 Precinct, Brooklyn North Narcotics, and The Drug Enforcement Task Force/ Organized Crime Control Bureau, with steady promotions leading to 2nd Grade Detective. While working and raising his family alongside his wife, Eddie attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice, graduating in 2003 with a BS in Security Management. Eddie retired from the NYPD in 2006 and began working at the East Orange Police Department as a Crime Analyst /Criminal Justice Planner. Eddie currently holds the position of Director of Security for an Upper East Side Private School.
An active member of AOH Division III in Pearl River since 1998 and Major Degree Holder since 2007, Eddie has been a member of the Scholarship/ Communion Mass Committee, New Applicants Committee, and has volunteered and assisted with numerous other committee events. Eddie has served as a member of the Orangetown Parks and Recreation Committee and the Substance Abuse Committee for the Town of Orangetown. He has coached teams for St Aedan’s Basketball, St Margaret’s Basketball, OMM Soccer, PRLL, PR Roller Hockey, PR Ice Hockey and the Ramapo Saints Ice Hockey League. While coaching, Eddie has simultaneously held positions on the Board of Directors of OMM, PR Roller Hockey, and established the Pearl River Ice Hockey Club.
Eddie is currently involved with the American Special Children’s Pilgrimage Group, creating the Lourdes Kids of Rockland Chapter in 2013. LKoR allows young people with Special Needs (mental and physical challenges) to travel on an all-expense paid trip to the Grotto in Lourdes, France for an independent, spiritual healing and fun filled week. These Pilgrimages are made possible from the extremely generous donations and the outstanding spirit of volunteerism from our community. As a patriotic second generation American, Eddie is very proud of his Irish Heritage. His maternal grandparents were born in County Kerry and his paternal grandparents were born in Counties Clare and Roscommon. After visiting Ireland 6 times in the last 9 years, Eddie recently obtained his dual citizenship and is the proud owner of an Irish passport
