On August 4th, some of the finest Bagpipers and Pipe Bands in America will be coming to the GAA Fields at 160 Old Orangeburg Rd, Orangeburg, NY for the Ceol Mor festival. “Ceol Mor” is Gaelic for “Big Music”, and the festivities in Orangetown will live up to the name. The Ceol Mor competition has special significance to the piping community as it provides a final tune-up for many bands traveling to the World Pipe Band Competition in Glasgow Scotland on August 17th. The result is that attendees of Ceol Mor shall be treated to some of the practitioners of the piping and drumming arts.
At the end of the competition, there will be a display of the Massed Bands that will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for largest Bagpipe ensemble currently at 333 pipers. All pipers, even if they are not competing on the day, are invited to join the effort to break the record. Additional information and registration may be found here.
In addition to the sound of the pipes, there will also be performances by traditional Irish Musicians, with the evening concluding with a concert by the well know Irish folk band “Nine Mile House.”
The proposed schedule for the day is as follows:
The event is sponsored by the Rockland County Ancient Order of Hibernians. Admission to the event is $15.00 for adults; children under 12 free.
The event is being hosted at the magnificent GAA facility who have made their covered pavilion and air-conditioned clubhouse available. No coolers for spectators are permitted, but food and drink shall be available for sale, proceeds to support this worthy organization. The GAA has asked that all be aware that NO DOGS are allowed on the property.
We look forward to seeing you on August 4th!
