Daniel Joseph Mulligan was born and raised in Staten Island, New York. He is one of three children of Patrick and Theresa Mulligan. He graduated from Staten Island Technical High School. Our Lady Queen of Peace was his parish. He moved to the Bronx to attend Fordham University where he graduated with a B.S. in Finance. While at Fordham, he met his wife, Jessica. They settled in Pearl River with their two children, Jamison and Marilyn, and they currently reside in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Danny’s father served with the FDNY for 25 years. His paternal predecessors, since emigrating from County Cork, all served in the U.S. military and/or the FDNY and NYPD. The values, unity, and Irish brotherhood of these organizations molded his upbringing and continue to shape his family life today. Within the FDNY, Danny’s father was a member of the Emerald Society and Holy Name Society. Danny received a high school scholarship award from the Emerald Society.
Danny’s mother was a neonatal nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital for 35 years. She is a devout Catholic and a pillar in the family’s parish. Danny’s strongest connection to Ireland comes from his grandmother, Virginia McCarthy. A McCarthy and Keating connection originated in County Cork. The original Keating land and farm is still present and in family ownership on Hollyhill in Skibbereen. While most of the family has left West Cork, Danny has still been able to see family when visiting Dublin. Two of his Keating cousins competed for Ireland in the 2024 Summer Olympics. Danny’s grandmother instilled in him the passion for his heritage and the desire to pass on the Irish Catholic history and values to his family.
Danny’s professional career began while an undergrad at Fordham, when he worked for Cantor Fitzgerald. Upon graduation, and at a personal crossroads, he deferred the FDNY academy and accepted a position at Bear Stearns. Since 2008, he has been a merger arbitrage trader at a Wall Street bank and currently holds the title of Managing Director. Separately, with 20 years of experience, he has been teaching martial arts to police officers, military personnel, and civilians. It is his deep desire, that our police officers are properly equipped to handle the day-to-day battles they incur and return home safely. He has taught members of all branches of the armed forces, NYPD, FBI, DEA, Miami SWAT, Broward SWAT, and several Florida police departments.
Danny’s main civic involvement has been with AOH Division 3 and the Rockland County board. Since joining Division 3 in 2015, he has held positions of Sentinel with the County and served on committees such as: membership, parade and golf outing. He was the 2018 Battalion Commander for Division 3. Since then, he has carried the flags for the County Pipe Band in both New York City and Rockland parades. During that time, he volunteered at a large majority of the functions and events of the Division and Hibernian House. Danny is also member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 329 in Pearl River. He and his family received an award in 2020 from Legion Post 329 in recognition of their service and appreciation. Danny is an avid sponsor of Angel’s Circle in Staten Island, a memorial shrine to 9/11 victims that is deeply meaningful to his family. Danny was a founding member of Preserve Orangetown, a grassroots organization dedicated to maintaining the landscape and sanctity of our great town. Danny continues to strongly support the Orangetown PBA and St Margaret’s Church.
Danny has instilled the importance of cultural involvement in his children. His participation with the Fort Lauderdale Highlanders Pipe Band is in hopes of his son, Jamison, playing with him one day. His daughter, Marilyn, began dancing with Innisfree in Pearl River and is now a competitor for the Kelly Academy of Irish Dance. She placed and won multiple jigs and reels at last year’s Fèis. In living up to the oath of Christian charity, Danny has provided guidance, support, and personal mentorship to friends and family searching for their faith and way.
Despite moving out of the area in recent years, Danny’s connection has never waned. Danny and Jessica raise their kids with the strong Catholic values they shared in Pearl River. The bond that his family formed with the AOH will always be adored and respected. Danny’s loyalty to the AOH is driven by maintaining its great work for the families and generations to come.
